Get To Know the Tomato Queen

Meet Katelyn

Hi, I’m Katelyn Brockmiller, a registered dietitian, passionate home gardener, and the creator behind Queen of Tomatoes! I’m here to help you discover how fun and rewarding growing your own food can be, whether you have a few containers on a patio, a sunny windowsill, raised garden beds, or an entire backyard garden.

My love for gardening started when I was young, learning alongside my grandpa. We even made it into our local newspaper! Those early experiences planted the seeds for a lifelong passion that eventually grew into something much bigger. After completing my dietetic internship, I found myself reconnecting with that love of gardening and began expanding my own garden. What started as a personal hobby has grown into a mission to help others feel confident growing fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs at home.

Gardening Tips for Beginners and Experienced Gardeners

You do not need a huge backyard, expensive equipment, or years of gardening experience to start growing your own food. I believe gardening should be accessible, enjoyable, and practical for everyone.

Through Queen of Tomatoes, I share easy gardening tips, step-by-step tutorials, and real-life lessons from my own garden. You will find helpful information about growing tomatoes, starting a vegetable garden, improving soil health, managing common garden pests, and choosing plants that work for your growing space.

Interested in growing food without a traditional outdoor garden? I also explore container gardening, patio planters, raised garden beds, and indoor hydroponic gardening systems. From growing cherry tomatoes indoors to planting seasonal vegetables outdoors, my goal is to help you find a gardening method that fits your lifestyle.

I share both my successes and my mistakes because gardening is a learning process. Trust me, even a dietitian and experienced gardener has to deal with pests, unpredictable weather, plant diseases, and the occasional gardening experiment that does not go as planned!

Bringing Nutrition and Gardening Together

As a registered dietitian, I love helping people build a healthier relationship with food. Gardening is one of my favorite ways to connect nutrition with everyday life.

When you grow your own vegetables, you get to experience the excitement of harvesting something you planted yourself. Whether you are picking a ripe tomato, snipping fresh herbs, or gathering vegetables for dinner, gardening can make fresh food more accessible and inspire you to try new ingredients in the kitchen.

I combine my background in nutrition with my passion for home gardening to make growing and enjoying fresh produce feel less intimidating. You do not need to be an expert gardener or a gourmet cook to get started. Small steps can make a big difference!

Life Outside the Garden

When I am not tending to my plants, you will probably find me training for my next half marathon, spending time with my husband, or hanging out with my dog, Duke. I love finding ways to stay active, explore the outdoors, and enjoy the little things in life.

And my favorite thing to grow? Tomatoes, hands down! There is nothing quite like harvesting a juicy, homegrown tomato, and I will never get tired of experimenting with different varieties.

Let's Grow Together!

Whether you are a first-time gardener, a container gardening enthusiast, or someone looking to take your vegetable garden to the next level, you are in the right place.

My mission is to make gardening less overwhelming and more rewarding with practical advice, beginner-friendly gardening tips, and ideas you can actually use. You do not have to get everything perfect to grow something wonderful.
